Im a level 8 Tauren Warrior and i have not any other races except for Taurens. When will i start to encounter other races?

Do you have to buy Wow to play it after the free trial period? because ive looked all over the web and i cant find it anywhere so im hoping u ppl who play will tell me if you do or not cuz i really need to know!!! thanks!
